Many fans of the Philadelphia Eagles — and the rest of the NFC East, for that matter — are rejoicing after the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday traded Micah Parsons out of the division and to the Green Bay Packers.
But hold your horses Philly fans.
Sure, this means it gets even easier for the Eagles to beat their arch-enemy, but that was already pretty easy. The Cowboys were not very good with Parsons and will either stay the same — or get worse — after the trade.
But that doesn’t matter. Dallas has very little chance of beating the Eagles in their two meetings this season, even if Parsons was in the lineup and put on All-Pro performances. The Cowboys are a mess, or as they like to say in Philly, “they s—.”
The bottom line is: Parsons is going to be wearing the wrong shade of green, as far as Eagles’ fans should be concerned.
The Green Bay Packers are a lot, and I mean a lot, better than the Cowboys. The Packers are now the type of team that could prevent the Eagles from getting back to the Super Bowl. Dallas was never going to be that team this season.
The Eagles play the Packers on Monday, Nov. 10, in primetime in Green Bay. Monday Night Football always adds some juice to any game, but now it makes for must-see TV.
And don’t think for one moment that Parsons, who played high school ball at Central Dauphin High School near Harrisburg, won’t be super-pumped for this game.
But that’s not what Eagles fans should be worried about.
Here’s what should really give you agita after gulping down a cheesesteak: The Eagles could meet the Packers again in the playoffs, just like last season en route to winning the Super Bowl.
Parsons is a fierce competitor who loves to ruin other teams’ dreams and wants to be a winner; that’s why he wanted out of Dallas. He knew he’d never get to the top of pro football with the Cowboys. With the Packers? A much better chance.
No reason to celebrate here, Philly.
In fact, just another reason to loathe Jerry Jones, who just give the City of Brotherly Love the middle finger.
