The Campaign for Daylis is an initiative to build a modern, safe, and fully accessible stadium that honors Billings’ proud athletic tradition while looking to the future the BPS Thursday press release detailed. Plans for the stadium located next to Billings Senior include new reinforced bleachers, modernized locker rooms and concessions, expanded track facilities, and upgraded lighting and sound systems. To date, the campaign has already secured over $4 million in private gifts, “bringing the vision closer to reality,” the press release noted.
Due to safety concerns, BPS closed the crumbling concrete grandstand on Daylis’ west side prior to the Big Sky State Games opening ceremonies in July 2024. During a facility tour of Daylis Stadium, built in 1929, at a committee meeting in early July 2024, attendees were shown a “firsthand look at the sometimes-dire conditions of Daylis which included mildewed and stained ceilings, corroded electrical systems and stories about mice infestations, among other alarming features,” according to previous Billings Gazette and 406 MT Sports reporting.
The Thursday BPS press release noted the current conditions at Daylis are “outdated, inaccessible to many, and no longer meet the growing needs of our schools or community,” thus the need to renovate the stadium.
While the west side grandstands are closed at Daylis, games are still being played there and Kalispell Glacier visits Billings West at Wendy’s Field at Daylis Stadium at 7 p.m. on Friday in both teams’ football opener.
