The Detroit Lions selected Georgia wide receiver Dominic Lovett in the 7th round of this year’s draft.

Lovett is the second receiver the Lions picked up in the draft, adding to a crowded bottom half of the depth chart at the position. The 5’10 former Bulldog led Georgia in receptions in 2024 and played a significant role on special teams.

Most scouting reports project Lovett to start out primarily as a special teams weapon, but there’s a chance he works his way up to being a contributor within the offense.

Here’s a look at a handful of notes from outside scouting reports:

Prospect Grade: 6.23 (out of 8)

League Projection: Will eventually be a starter

NFL Next Gen Stats Total Score: 71 (2025 Combine WR Rank No. 23)

Analysis from NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein

Lovett is as smooth as churned butter with an effortless glide and easy transitions inside his route. He’s a slender slot who can slip by press but has trouble dealing with physical coverage at times. A heavy percentage of his targets came within a few yards of the line of scrimmage, but he’s capable of expanding his sphere of influence as a pass catcher. He runs routes with consistent tempo and speed but appears to have access to a second gear he should use more often. His hands will both dazzle and frustrate. He’s capable and experienced as a gunner and can compete for reps on special teams until he finds his footing as a WR3.

2024 Grade for Offense: 65.8

2024 Grade for Special Teams: 54.1

Pro Comparison: Jayden Reed

Analysis from B/R Draft Scout Dame Parson:

Lovett is elusive and shifty in the open field. He makes defenders miss with smooth movements and by reading and cutting against their leverage. He is a threat to take short routes for bigger gains…Lovett also needs to improve his ability to defeat physical bump-and-run coverage. Strong and nuanced nickel corners can slow down his momentum with well-timed punches.Overall, Lovett projects as a shifty and quick-moving slot receiver with run-after-catch abilities. Lovett will put pressure on corners to tackle well in space or he will convert missed tackles into yards after the catch/contact. He expects to be an adequate starting slot receiver in the NFL.

Draft Projection: Role Specific Contributor

Analysis from The Draft Network:

Dominic Lovett is a slot wide receiver who thrives in space as a shifty player with exceptional yards-after-catch ability…}Lovett still has room to develop and refine his route-running, as he has sometimes allowed defensive backs to undercut his routes and make a play on the ball. Lovett could benefit from further developing his ability to manipulate defenders’ leverage and refining his route-running to win more consistently downfield.Lovett is a prototypical slot receiver who has had solid production at the highest collegiate level. He thrives in the quick game and YAC ability. Lovett projects as a role-specific contributor in the NFL.
