According to reports, the Bucs plan on releasing Trask, the team’s backup for the past four seasons, in favor of recently signed Teddy Bridgewater, a 32-year-old journeyman signal caller.

The Buccaneers: 50 years of Tampa Bay football

Trask, a second-round 2021 pick out of Florida, sat behind Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert his first two seasons on the roster and has backed up Baker Mayfield the past two years.

He is expected to be placed on injured reserve with a minor shoulder injury before being released with an injury settlement.

Trask ends his Bucs’ career with four completions in seven pass attempts for 28 yards and no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Meanwhile, the team reportedly has ended ties with Desmond Watson, the league’s heaviest player and a local product (out of Seffner’s Armwood High and University of Florida).

Watson, who played at Florida, was signed after going undrafted in April. He weighed 464 pounds at the school’s pro day and lost 25 to 30 pounds before the draft but didn’t get a chance to practice with the team because he didn’t lose enough weight.

He spent training camp on the non-football injury list. The 6-foot-6 defensive tackle had been working with a team nutritionist and the team didn’t say what would be an ideal playing weight for him.

The Bucs also waived free agent defensive back Shilo Sanders the day after he was ejected from the team’s last pre-season game for throwing a punch at an opponent during Tampa Bay’s 23-19 loss against Buffalo.

NFL team rosters have to be at 53 players by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
