The Indianapolis Colts are reportedly signing an old friend to the practice squad.

The team recently had linebacker Anthony Walker in for a workout. Walker is a former fifth-round draft pick by the Colts in 2017, having spent four seasons in Indianapolis, appearing in 57 games, which includes 48 starts.

According to Greg Auman, following the workout, the Colts are signing Walker to the practice squad.

Since leaving the Colts after the 2020 season, Walker has spent four seasons with Cleveland, the 2024 season with Miami, and this offseason with Tampa Bay.

Most recently with Miami, Walker played in 14 games, recording an interception, two pass deflections, and 68 total tackles.

As Hicks mentions, the addition of Walker provides the Colts with some added experience at the linebacker position, something they don’t have a lot of, and bolsters the overall depth of this unit.

This has been a position that GM Chris Ballard has prioritized since the initial 53-man roster was set. The Colts claimed Chad Muma on waivers and put in a second claim on another linebacker.

Presumably starting next to Zaire Franklin after an impressive summer will be Joe Bachie. But beyond those two is not a lot of defensive experience. Muma has played 725 snaps over two seasons, Segun Olubi has 136 career defensive snaps, and Cameron McGrone has nine.

Adding Walker to the practice squad gives the Colts another option this season.
