Three days after the NFL’s roster cuts deadline, the dust has settled and the Denver Broncos have a 53-man roster and 17-player practice squad set for the 2025 season. Here are five quick takeaways after the roster shuffling.

1. Three quarterbacks total: Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham are obviously on the active roster, and the team got Sam Ehlinger back on the practice squad. Ehlinger drew 53-man roster offers from other clubs but chose to stay in Denver, which was a huge win for the Broncos.

2. No practice squad running backs: After carrying  J.K. Dobbins, RJ Harvey, Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin on the active roster, Denver filled its practice squad and did not add any more running backs. That could change during the season, but for now, the Broncos are going into the season with four RBs under contract.

3. No rookie wide receivers on practice squad: It was a bit of a surprise that Denver did not sign any of its four undrafted wide receivers to the practice squad. Courtney Jackson left to join the Seattle Seahawks, and Joaquin Davis, Kyrese Rowan and Jerjuan Newton all remain unsigned. It’s possible that Davis, Rowan and Newton could be kept in mind for down the road in case injuries pop up. In the meantime, veterans A.T. Perry and Michael Bandy are the Broncos’ two practice squad WRs.

4. Three inside linebackers on practice squad: Alex Singleton is coming off a torn ACL in 2024 and Dre Greenlaw has been nursing a quad injury this summer, so it’s probably not a big surprise that three inside linebackers made the practice squad: Levelle Bailey, Jordan Turner and Garret Wallow. Bailey is a second-year player, Turner is a developmental undrafted rookie and Wallow is an established veteran. The Broncos are going into the season with plenty of insurance at the position.

5. Stacked defensive line: Denver only signed one defensive lineman (Jordan Miller) to the practice squad, which isn’t surprising after they kept a whopping seven defensive lineman on the active roster: Zach Allen, John Franklin-Myers, D.J. Jones, Malcolm Roach, Sai’vion Jones, Eyioma Uwazurike and Jordan Jackson. It’s not common for a 3-4 defense to use seven active-roster spots in the trenches, but it was a warranted decision from the Broncos given their impressive depth.

Attention now turns toward the team’s home opener against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 7. The Broncos are considered 7.5-point favorites in Week 1.
