The New York Giants are ready for the 2025 regular season after a banner offseason, an undefeated preseason, and a very competitive training camp.
Some players, however, may not be ready. Left tackle Andrew Thomas told reporters on Thursday that he wasn’t sure if he’ll be on the field come the start of the regular season, September 7 in Washington.

We are still nine days away from that game, so Thomas has a chance of playing. If not, the Giants will likely spell him with free agent James Hudson III until Thomas is ready to play.
Another player, tight end Theo Johnson, has been notoriously absent from practice this week. He is dealing with an unspecified injury, and his status for Week 1 is also uncertain.
“Anyone who’s out here is going to be practicing, and the ones that aren’t are getting ready to practice as soon as they can,” head coach Brian Daboll said on Thursday when asked about Johnson’s status. “Just taking it day by day.”
Johnson played in the Giants’ first two preseason games, catching all three targets for a total of 40 yards. Some are speculating that he may have suffered some type of injury on this 30-yard screen pass against the Jets in the Giants’ second preseason game.
The Giants are flush with tight ends this summer. So flush, in fact, they cut Greg Dulcich, who had such a solid preseason that fans were outraged when the Giants cut him this week.

If Johnson can’t go, the Giants will lean on Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz, and rookie Thomas Fidone II to pick up the slack.
