New York Giants look to turn optimism into wins this season

  • September 1, 2025

(WFSB) – The New York Giants said they hope their moves in the offseason will lead them to put last year’s 3-14 record in the rearview mirror.

Channel 3 went to the Giant’s training camp where players and coaches said they believe the team has what it takes to pick up wins this season.

“I just want to be able to bring that championship mentality every day. A championship approach, the competitive edge every day. How we want to go about practice. How we want to push each other,” said Russell Wilson, quarterback.

Some of the Giants’ optimism comes from seeing new faces in the quarterback room, such as Jaxson Dart, a rookie from Ole Miss.

During the draft, the Giants made a trade to acquire an additional first round pick to select Dart at number 25 overall.

They also signed Super Bowl champion and 10-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson.

“As a veteran going into my 14th year, for me it’s about being prepared mentally, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, but also too, what can I do to help somebody else,” said Wilson.

“I feel like I’m continuing to learn more, continuing to gain more from those veteran guys and just add more and more resources to my game and to my circle that I surround myself with,” added Malik Nabers, wide receiver.

Wilson is hoping to make explosive plays on a Giants offense which will include star wide receiver Nabers.

Nabers erupted onto the scene during his rookie year with 109 catches, 1,200 yards, and seven touchdowns.

“If I can get three catches for 160-yards, I’ll take it, rather than 10, so you know, just having that mindset at the quarterback position that I’m going deep, I’m trying to score, trying to get points, I’m trying to be aggressive,” said Nabers.

“There’s only so many people in the world that can do it like he can, and I think he’s one of the best in the world to do it. He’s going into his second year of it all, and it’s all fresh and all new, but he’s definitely experienced in terms of how he sees the game,” said Wilson.

Throughout training camp, players up and down the roster said the atmosphere is different this year.

They’re hoping to have the opportunity to prove many critics wrong.

“We’re going against a really good defense. So, when you get to go against those guys it just makes us all better, offensively and defensively. I think that level of competition daily, back and forth is making our football team better every day,” Wilson added.

People are also excited to see linebacker Abdul Carter who the Giants selected with the number three overall pick in the draft.

Big Blue was expected to kick off their season against the Washington Commanders on the road this Sunday.
