Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson were disgusted watching Colorado football originally appeared on The Sporting News
College football’s opening weekend delivered plenty of storylines, but in Boulder, it was déjà vu. A performance eerily reminiscent to Colorado defensive efforts in 2023.

Georgia Tech stormed into Folsom Field and ran for 327 yards in a 27–20 win over Colorado. For Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, the performance wasn’t just disappointing, it was disgusting.
“I was disgusted watching this game,” Sharpe snapped on a recent episode of Nightcap. “What about gap integrity? What about contain? Georgia Tech has run the football since I was a kid. This is utterly ridiculous.”
Quarterback Haynes King was the difference, rushing 19 times for 156 yards and three touchdowns, including the back-breaking 45-yard score with just over a minute left. Meanwhile, Colorado’s offense, now led by Kaidon Salter, couldn’t capitalize. Despite three Georgia Tech turnovers in the first quarter, the Buffaloes managed just one touchdown.
“You give me three turnovers at home in the first quarter and you only score seven points,” Sharpe said. “You’re telling that team…beat me, kick our ass.”

Sharpe didn’t let Colorado’s new quarterback off the hook either. “Salter, bro, you missed entirely too many throws,” he said. “When you miss a throw, don’t tell the receiver to turn around. Put it on me. You effed it up.”
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson emphasized how Colorado failed to seize momentum early. “For me, Georgia Tech tried to hand the game to Colorado,” Ochocinco said. “Three turnovers in the first quarter and you only do something with it one time…they’re not doing enough.”
Even the late-game clock management left Sharpe him shaking his head. “I don’t know what Coach Prime was thinking. You got two timeouts, a minute left, and you don’t use any…you walked into the locker room with them.”
And then Sharpe delivered the line that summed it all up: “In practice, they look like Deion Sanders. In the game, they look like Colonel Sanders.”
