The Seattle Seahawks have signed defensive back D’Anthony Bell to the practice squad. They waived offensive lineman Sataoa Laumea in a corresponding move.

Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times shared the news before practice on Monday.

Bell made the initial 53-man roster but was waived on Thursday as the team signed linebacker Chaz Surratt. Bell signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2022, where he spent his first three NFL seasons. He played in 16 and 17 games in his first two years by solidifying a role on special teams and truly broke out in 2024. His 86.4 PFF SPEC Grade ranked 4th among only 62 special teamers who played 80% of their team’s snaps.

He also showed promise on defense in 2023, posting a 77.2 DEF grade while seeing action at safety in all 16 games he played. He missed the entire 2024 preseason on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and focused more on special teams last year, appearing in just 7 games on defense.

The Seahawks found a low-risk, high-reward depth piece when they signed Bell to a team-friendly deal in free agency. Seahawks Wire’s own Justin Melo mentioned the need for the Seahawks to improve their special teams in 2025, a role in which Bell was a clear fit for. They brought him back on the practice squad ahead of Week 1 and could elevate him on gameday to start the season off strong on special teams.
