The Cincinnati Bengals still aren’t ready to confirm a starting right guard before the Week 1 season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
Those Bengals just added Dalton Risner in free agency to help at the spot that was supposed to belong to Lucas Patrick, signed earlier this offseason off the open market.

Speaking with reporters, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Risner continues to pick things up at a good pace:
“I think the playbook part, it maybe sounds different but it’s all stuff he’s done before. It’s just, ‘OK, this word means that.’ I think he’s done a good job from just talking to him today. He’s done a great job just staring at the playbook all weekend and trying to consume as best he can, getting in here early. It sounds like it makes sense to him. He’s played a lot of football, so he’s heard it a lot of different ways.”

The Bengals not having a guard spot in front of Joe Burrow figured out a few days before the opener is a brutal scene for a team that has playoff aspirations. Hence, generally, fans not being happy with how the team prioritized the need this offseason.

Patrick battled injuries and shaky performances this summer, to the point mid-round rookie Jalen Rivers got work at the spot. Second-rounder Dylan Fairchild still remains on track to start at the other spot.
At a time of year when only injury reports are supposed to weigh heavily on things, the Bengals depth chart suddenly tops it because of this situation.
