One of the biggest storylines of this week’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets will be whether Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward plays. Heyward has been doing a soft holdout throughout training camp and the preseason while he works with the team to try to get a new contract.
Heyward offered an update on his situation in the form of no update at all on his podcast this week. Heyward kept things short and sweet, giving zero insight as to whether he will practice this week or play versus the Jets.

“Nope,” Heyward said. “Nothing to break. Nothing to talk about.”
If Heyward doesn’t play on Sunday, the team will be minus two of its three starting defensive linemen. Rookie Derrick Harmon suffered a knee injury in the preseason and could miss several games. If Heyward skips the game, look for the combo of Logan Lee and Isaiaihh Loudermilk to hold down the fort with Keeanu Benton in the middle.
Heyward wants a new contract despite having two years left on his current contract. The Steelers don’t typically negotiate with players with more than one year left on their deal so if the Steelers choose to give Heyward a raise, it will be way out of character for the organization.
