Ohio State made an impression on voters over the opening weekend with a 14-7 victory over Texas.

No other team in the Football Bowl Subdivision left with a bigger win, as the Longhorns had been the consensus top-ranked team in the preseason polls and had turned their offense over to prized quarterback Arch Manning.

Until Manning’s 32-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, the Buckeyes threatened to shut out the Longhorns for the first time in a decade.

Where is Ohio State ranked in coaches poll?

The Buckeyes are the new No. 1 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. After receiving nearly one third of the first-place votes in the preseason, they picked up 59 out of the possible 67 votes this week and moved up a spot to overtake the Longhorns.

Penn State scooped up six of the eight remaining first-place votes and was one spot behind the Buckeyes, followed by Georgia at No. 3, LSU at No. 4 and Oregon at No. 5.

Where is Ohio State ranked in AP poll?

To be determined. The AP poll is not released until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
