The referee responsible for overseeing the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ regular season opener versus the New York Jets has just been revealed.

According to Football Zebras, Bill Vinovich — a three-time Super Bowl referee — will be in charge of the Steelers’ Week 1 matchup versus the Jets.

In 2024, Vinovich called an average of 11.59 penalties per game — 1.21 fewer than the league average of 12.80. Additionally, during games he refereed last season, home teams won only 41.18% of the time — far below the league average of 54.74%.

Keeping Vinovich’s tendencies in mind, the Pittsburgh Steelers couldn’t have a better referee to open their regular season on the road against the New York Jets — with a proven track record of calling fewer penalties and eliminating any bias toward home teams.
