Two years and an early split with the New Orleans Saints isn’t the end of Isaiah Foskey’s NFL journey. The former second-round draft pick is working out for a couple of teams in week ahead, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zentiz. After scheduling a tryout with the Chicago Bears later this week, Foskey is expected to visit the Philadelphia Eagles after their season-opening game with the Dallas Cowboys.
It’s easy to draw the connections here. Dennis Allen drafted Foskey as Saints head coach, and now he’s calling plays for the Chicago defense with some assistants who know the player well. That’s an obvious fit if they feel Foskey can offer more in a depth role than some of the guys already on their roster. Foskey couldn’t even get on the box score in a preseason game full of players on the roster bubble this summer, so that feels unlikely, but you never know.

But the one that’s put Saints fans on edge is Philadelphia. A year of seeing Zack Baun flourish after languishing on the bench in his first four years was painful, and a repeat performance with Foskey feels all too possible. At the same time, a couple of different coaching staffs couldn’t get Foskey going in New Orleans. It would say more about Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio being a great coach than anything else if he could help Foskey turn his career around.
One team that hasn’t been linked to him, but who we’re looking out for? The Cincinnati Bengals. They hired Foskey’s college defensive coordinator for the same role, and they’re still needing help in the rotation after extending Trey Hendrickson’s contract. If Al Golden is still a believer in his former player, maybe they enter the Foskey sweepstakes, too. But at this point it’s looking like Foskey’s production at the college level just hasn’t translated to the pros. Good luck to him.
