Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did not necessarily have the coaching debut that he wanted for the North Carolina Tar Heels football team.
The TCU Horned Frogs blew out the Tar Heels on Monday night on primetime television by a score of 48-14. Newly named “Chapel Bill” should have been referred to as “Chapel Not A Big Deal” on this night. After a seven-play 83-yard drive ended with a touchdown, the Tar Heels would give up 41 unanswered to a TCU team that felt a little disrespected that fans didn’t know that they were in town, even to play a game.

Belichick has coached 512 games in his career and won six Super Bowls, but he has never given up 48 points to any team at any level. Former Patriots linebacker and current head coach of New England was asked about his old coach’s debut on “The Greg Hill Show.” Vrabel would state that he “didn’t see much of the game,” and when asked if he thought that it would take some time for Belichick to get the program going, he would say, “I don’t know, Urban Meyer won 12 of the first 12 games at Ohio State, so it didn’t take him long. That’s my experience in college football.”
Maybe Vrabel didn’t want to speak too much on the matter since the blowout was still fresh, but more importantly, it was only one game, and Belichick and his staff are having to deal with 70 new players on the team.
