New Orleans Saints fans experienced a scare on Wednesday when starting edge rusher Chase Young was limited on the first injury report with a calf injury, which head coach Kellen Moore said popped up during the day’s practice session. Young was one of four players who were limited on Wednesday, while a fifth, starting left guard Trevor Penning, wasn’t able to practice.
But Young’s status is what caught the most attention. The good news is that, at least initially, his status doesn’t appear to be in doubt for Sunday’s game. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill first reported that “Chase Young’s injury isn’t anything too serious, I’m told. Still getting checked and evaluated but it’s not believed to be anything drastic.”

Two minutes later, NFL insider Jordan Schultz said that Young “left practice today with a calf injury that was described to me as ‘calf tightness.’ Young underwent tests and everything checked out fine.” Schultz added that “The injury is not considered serious.”
So that’s two different reporters essentially saying the same thing by downplaying the severity, which lines up with Moore’s comments in his post-practice media availability. We’ll see how Young progresses through the week and where his gameday status ends up falling. Here’s the full Saints-Cardinals injury report:
