NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Cam Ward era will officially begin Sunday when the Tennessee Titans visit the Denver Broncos for the season opener at 3:05 p.m. CT.
Ward, a rookie, is listed as the first-string quarterback on the Titans’ unofficial depth chart.
Tennessee drafted Ward with the first overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. He holds the NCAA Div. I record for career touchdowns with 178.
The Titans hope that production will translate to the NFL, as Ward readies to be the first rookie in franchise history to start a season opener since Marcus Mariota in 2015.
“The biggest thing for a young quarterback is just stay within yourself,” Titans head coach Brian Callahan said. “Play within what’s asked of you. Do the things that you’ve done all training camp, all offseason. Week 1 gets made into this benchmark moment of a season. It’s really just one game of 17 that you certainly want to play well in. But it’s— you’ve still got to have some perspective on it.”
Ward displayed his typical composed and confident outlook when asked about making his first NFL start.

“I just view it as doing my job,” Ward said. “Tennessee took me for a reason, that I’m capable of throwing the ball and leading the offense to score a lot of points. And I’m just trying to do my one of 11. Everybody has a job in our offense, everybody got to contribute to hopefully come out of there with a win.”
The Titans and Broncos face off Sunday in Denver at 3:05 p.m.
