Julian Edelman won a lot of football games with the Patriots. The exact number is 120, including playoffs, for the sake of accuracy.

With some of those victories coming in the Super Bowl, and with so many to choose from, you might think it would be difficult — if not impossible — for the retired wide receiver to pick just one game as his favorite.

Edelman, though, had no hesitation when asked to name his favorite on The Quick Snap podcast with David Andrews and Brian Hoyer: the 2018 AFC Championship Game in Kansas City.

One of the reasons? Edelman wanted his Patriots to have a signature road win in the playoffs.

“Honestly, I was just so damn sick and tired of hearing Bill (Belichick) talk about the old team going into San Diego and winning [the 2006 AFC Divisional playoff game] or, you know, the Troy Brown [forced] fumble,” Edelman said. “And then the narrative that the league thought: We could only win when we had it at the house.”

Edelman also sees the symbolic impact of a playoff game featuring Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

“That was kind of like the passing of the torch between the organizations — Tom to Patrick, Patriots to Chiefs,” he said. “They were the sexy, young, fast, fun team … and we were the old team that no one talked about. We were dog crap throughout the whole season. ‘Oh, they don’t have the guys, they don’t have the receivers, they don’t have the linemen, they don’t have the team, and Tom’s too old.’ And we went out and we just … we won.”

Edelman also admitted that it feels good to ruin the day for tens of thousands of fans in the stadium when the home team is delivered a loss.

“They had a great atmosphere. I mean, the Chiefs’ stadium gets rocking,” Edelman said. “There’s something about being the villain. I loved being on the road sometimes. Like when we used to go play in the Meadowlands playing against the Jets fans. Regardless, those people hated you, and I loved pooping in people’s Corn Flakes.”
