Division rivalry games are intense enough, but starting the season with one brings emotions to another level.
49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir was asked about facing the Seattle Seahawks’ receiving core without DK Metcalf.
“Without my fellow friend DK,” Lenoir joked with reporters after practice Wednesday, “they’re a good group of receivers with the addition of [Cooper] Kupp.”
The Seahawks traded Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, and Kupp signed a three-year, $45 million contract to fill the void.
“They got some confidence over there,” Lenoir continued. “I feel like on Sunday it’s going to be a very fun game.”
Lenoir and the rest of the 49ers have been waiting for this game all offseason. It’s hard to erase the memory of the fourth-quarter comeback Seattle placed on San Francisco in Week 10 last year.
“Literally this whole offseason has been about Seattle,” Lenoir admitted. “So I got to back it up. I’m ready.”
The “rivalry” has been lopsided in recent years. The 49ers have won five of their last six matchups, with last year’s loss leaving a sour taste in their mouths. San Francisco looks to flip the script on Sunday.
