Following roster cutdowns last Tuesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars traded for wide receiver Tim Patrick, a move that caught many by surprise, including Patrick’s former Lions teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown.
On the latest episode of the ‘St. Brown Podcast,’ St. Brown discussed how he found out Patrick was traded and his initial thoughts.

“Losing Tim did hurt,” St. Brown said. “It was actually a crazy story how I found out. This is like last Tuesday, it’s like 9:30 PM, I’m in the kitchen about to go to bed, talking to Brooklyn, and I just get a text–boom–in the receiver group chat. It’s like, ‘Hey man, it was a pleasure playing with you all, going to war with you all, I’m out.’ I’m like, the (expletive)?”
St. Brown continued, “Tim’s my dog. I wish nothing but the best for Tim in Jacksnoville. Hope he goes out there and goes crazy. He was actually my locker mate, too. He sat right next to me. We used to make jokes every day. He’s a Cali boy, too. He’s from San Diego. I love Tim.”
The addition of Patrick to the Jaguars‘ receiver room adds more experience to that unit, along with a different skill set that otherwise isn’t on the roster.
At 6-5 – 210 pounds, Patrick brings a big-bodied presence that the Jaguars covet at the receiver position and is more than willing to do the dirty work that comes with playing the position in Liam Coen’s offense, including blocking in the run game.

Last season with Detroit, Patrick ranked among the best run-blockers at the receiver position, according to PFF’s metrics.
As a pass-catcher, Patrick can be a big red zone target and a potential safety net for Lawrence on short-area throws.
The Jaguars having another skill set in the receiver room for Coen to work with only further opens up the playbook for him, allowing him to further customize weekly game plans.
