Jacksonville Jaguars’ rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten was named one player who could “come out of nowhere” this season.

ESPN insiders Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler recently answered a series of questions with the NFL season is upon us. One of the topics discussed were players who could “come out of nowhere” and make an impact.

Fowler went with San Francisco wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, while Graziano chose Tuten.

“The veterans (Etienne and Bigsby) might get the first shot, but the new front office and coaching staff drafted Tuten and Allen and have plans for them.”

Graziano continued, “Tuten is the most explosive of the group — a “home run hitter” in the Jaguars‘ eyes. If he’s able to pick up the offense and acclimate to the NFL quickly, that explosiveness could lead to greater opportunities sooner rather than later.”

How the playing time at the running back position is going to shake out this season remains to be seen. In part, it’ll likely be matchup dependent, while the game flow will play a role in that as well. There is also something to be said for riding the hot hand.

Liam Coen discussed recently the challenge of getting four backs touches and even having that many active on Sundays.

Like Graziano mentions, I would anticipate that Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby see the early workload–or at least that’s how things played out during the summer.

But the Jaguars’ new regime drafted Tuten for a reason, and naturally, GMs and coaches want to see ‘their guys’ on the field.

In an offensive scheme under Coen where more explosive running plays are needed, Tuten’s 4.32 speed can provide that added presence. And when there is big play potential, there are often going to be opportunities for that player.
