One of the San Francisco 49ers few free agent additions may not be available for three games to start the season.

Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who inked a two-year, $8 million deal with the 49ers this offseason, is facing a potential three-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.

It’s not a huge surprise that Robinson is facing a possible suspension. He was arrested for a DUI in November while he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Robinson was doing more than 100 miles-per-hour near the Rams facility when he was detained by California Highway Patrol.

He was punished by neither the team nor the NFL during the 2024 campaign. The 49ers knew it was a possibility they’d miss Robinson for at least part of the season because of the arrest.

While the 49ers may lean on Robinson a lot during the year, they have enough depth to withstand a three-game absence from a player who fits in as a fourth WR in a perfect world. With Brandon Aiyuk working his way back from a knee injury and with a couple of second-year WRs and a rookie in the mix, there’s some uncertainty in the receiving corps. A player like Robinson could help provide stability even if he does miss some time.
