Hunter is ready for Week 1 – and if the Jaguars aren’t yet saying how much and where he will play on Sunday, know this: He’ll play both ways and he’s excited.
“I knew it was coming; it was only a matter of time,” Hunter said. “I have to just go play. There’s only one thing right now and that’s football.”
Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, is expected to play a more significant role as two-way player – offense and defense – than any NFL player in the last three decades. He worked extensively at both positions in training camp before being hampered by an upper-body injury through much of late August.
The Jaguars listed Hunter as a starting wide receiver on the Week 1 unofficial depth chart. He is listed as a backup cornerback but figures to play extensively in passing situations.
“He was well-coached in college, but he has made a really big jump and big progression from where he started to where is now,” Campanile said. “He’s continuing to evolve. He’s doing a good job. He’s doing the extra. I’m impressed with that and it’s all from hard work. It’s good to see.”
