The Atlanta Falcons are three days away from their 2025 season opener and it’s still anyone’s guess as to whether or not wide receiver Darnell Mooney will play. Head coach Raheem Morris has not given a definitive answer, but Mooney provided an update on his Week 1 status following Thursday’s practice

“It’s a game-time decision,” Mooney told ESPN’s Marc Raimondi. “Got some things we got to look at at the end of the week, but like I said, I’m feeling good.”

The Falcons are rightfully being cautious with their No. 2 wideout. Last season, Mooney recorded 64 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns as an explosive complement to Drake London. Two of Mooney’s best games came against Tampa Bay.

In a Week 5 win, he had nine catches for 105 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Mooney helped lead the team to another win with four catches for 86 receiving yards and a touchdown in Week 8.

Mooney has attempted to see the bright side of the experience, saying he felt the absence helped open the door for some of his younger teammates to get extra reps in practice.

“It gave other people opportunities to grow as well,” Mooney told D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It gave Casey an opportunity to get out there. Chris to get out there. Kyle to grow into himself. Everything happens for a reason, and we’re going to need a lot of guys to make some plays.”
