With the NFL’s season officially under way, there’s still some UFL to NFL action taking place. San Antonio Brahmas edge rusher Garrett Nelson has been added to the New Orleans Saints practice squad, following a strong preseason with the Denver Broncos.
Garrett has played in the UFL the last two seasons with the Brahmas. He was actually the only edge rusher to return for 2025, following a strong campaign in 2024.
Nelson posted 13 tackles, two TFL’s, and 2.5 sacks with San Antonio in 2024. He was one of the highest graded players in San Antonio by PFF, with a Defensive Grade of 86.0. He was a tremendous pass rusher, with an 82.2 grade in that category.
This past UFL season, Garrett was a part of an interesting rotation in San Antonio, featuring mostly new pieces. He racked up 12 tackles and 13 QB pressures, starting in six of eight games played. Nelson finished the year with a strong 70.7 Defensive Grade, via PFF.
Nelson was picked up by the Denver Broncos, and had an impressive preseason performance. He ended up six tackles and four QB pressures, totaling three defensive stops across three games, via PFF. Nelson boasted a strong 76.1 Defensive Grade.

Garrett was originally expected to land on the Broncos practice squad, but now takes his talents to New Orleans. The Saints are a team that targeted UFL talent this offseason. Renegades DB Jayden Price is on their practice squad, while Stallions OL Barry Wesley is on IR after impressing in the preseason. With former Seattle Sea Dragons GM Randy Mueller serving in personnel, this is no surprise.
