Tennessee Titans rookie tight end Gunnar Helm was born in Englewood, Colorado, and he played high school football at Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
So it will be a homecoming for Helm when the Titans visit Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday to take on the Denver Broncos.
“It’s super cool, it’s kind of like a full-circle moment for me,” Helm told Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official website. The 22-year-old tight end said he has played in the stadium twice before, and he’s familiar with the mile-high elevation.
Wyatt then asked Helm if he grew up a Broncos fan.
“Yeah, I did, you know, I’m not going to sugarcoat it or lie, yeah, I did,” Helm admitted. “I grew up just 20 minutes south of the stadium. So, grew up going to a lot of Broncos games, so like I said, a full-circle moment for me, it’s going to be really cool.”
After playing college football for the Texas Longhorns, Helm was picked by the Titans in the fourth round of this year’s NFL draft.
Helm is listed as the No. 2 tight end on Tennessee’s depth chart, so he figures to have a role in Sunday’s game plan. Playing professional games at Mile High was probably a childhood dream for Helm. He’ll now get a chance to live it out — just on an opposing team.
Sunday’s game will be regionally televised on select Fox channels at 2:05 p.m. MT (view the TV map).
