The Bills were hit with the injury bug early again this year. Heading into week 1, one of the biggest concerns is with starting wide receiver Keon Coleman.
We haven’t gotten to see many of the starters through the preseason. Many of them haven’t played a single snap. Whether it’s because they’ve been injured or to avoid injury, most of the preseason reps were used to evaluate some of the young talent on this team.
Starting this week, these games begin to count.
Keon Coleman has been battling injury
Coleman was starting to show flashes of why the Bills drafted him in the beginning of the second round before a devastating injury derailed his plans last season. He sustained a hand injury, which, for a wide receiver, is pretty devastating. Coaches were pretty vocal about how they hoped to see more from Keon when they came back in the spring. When he arrived at camp, it appeared as though he had done the work. He looked bigger and stronger, and seemed to have been working hard in the off-season.
However, in camp, he acquired a groin injury that has been nagging him. He has shown up on a couple of injury reports over the last couple of weeks. Thursday’s injury report reported that he was limited in practice and people are wondering if he’s going to be able to play.
Will Keon Coleman play on Sunday?
Josh Allen is always best when he has all of his weapons ready to go. As this article is being written, no one has been ruled out for Sunday for the Bills. Khalil Shakir was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Christian Benford was a full participant on Thursday. The biggest concerns at this moment are kicker Tyler Bass (he did not practice on Thursday and they signed a kicker to the practice squad), cornerback Tre’Davious White (hasn’t practiced this week), and Keon Coleman.
But when asked point blank if he had any concerns about whether he’ll be ready to go on Sunday, he responded immediately with, “Nah.”
The Bills have until 90 minutes before kickoff to declare their inactive players. They will take on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at 8:20 pm at Highmark Stadium to start their regular season.
