The Los Angeles Rams look like one of the better teams in the NFL heading into the team’s Week 1 match with the Houston Texans.
The team retained Matthew Stafford, kept the offensive line intact, added Davante Adams and got another offseason to develop their young defense. And, despite some injury issues during the summer, L.A. looks to be at full strength ahead of their first game.
But that doesn’t mean they’re perfect.
Here are four of the biggest causes for concerns with the Rams vs. the Texans.
Stafford’s health
This will be the biggest question surrounding the Rams all season, as his health could determine how the Rams look this entire year. Stafford missed most of the team’s training camp while he recovered from a back injury, and his health will be in serious question until we see him on the field. Even then, Stafford is 37 and going against one of the toughest defensive lines in the league with Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.
Secondary vs. C.J. Stroud
The Rams have one of the worst secondary groups in 2024, and instead of upgrading the unit this offseason, they decided to bring everyone back. L.A. will start the same four cornerbacks they had last year between Akhello Witherspoon, Cobie Durant, Darious Williams and Emmanuel Forbes Jr. Witherspoon and Williams are on the wrong side of 30, Durant is young and Forbes Jr. is a former first-rounder who might get a chance to shine in 2025. They’ll face off against Nico Collins and rookie Jayden Higgins as well as one of the better young quarterbacks in C.J. Stroud.
The offensive line
This issue is connected directly to Stafford’s health. The line will face a duo in Anderson Jr. and Hunter who combined for 23 sacks in 2024. The Rams’ offensive line is solid but has two players in Alaric Jackson and Rob Havenstein how weren’t super healthy this offseason.
The run defense
The Rams added Poona Ford to the defensive line this offseason in the hopes of solving their run defense woes, but that doesn’t mean it’ll work. L.A. allowed the 22nd-most rushing yards a year ago and now faces a Texans team with a trio of solid backs in Nick Chubb, Dameon Pierce and rookie Woody Marks. The unit looks to be improved, but there’s no way to know for sure until we see it on the field.
