The New York Giants (0-0) will take on the Washington Commanders (0-0) this Sunday afternoon at Northwest Stadium in their first game of the 2025 regular season.
Opening the week, the Giants were listed as 6-point road underdogs, and that’s where the spread remains as of this writing.

How does the Giants Wire staff see this Week 1 battle shaking out? Here’s a look at our picks and score predictions.
Dan Benton: Giants 27, Commanders 25
The Commanders were barely able to hold on and beat the Giants a season ago. An ugly drop by Malik Nabers and some self-inflicted wounds led them to 0-2 in the divisional series, and those issues should be cleaned up. Washington still has some questions on defense, especially against the run, and it remains to be seen if Jayden Daniels will take the next step in his development or ride out a sophomore slump like C.J. Stroud did. Giants start the year with an upset victory.
John Fennelly: Commanders 27, Giants 20
It’s hard to pick the Giants to win right now, as we don’t really know who or what they are. Washington added some solid veterans and upgraded their offensive line, so we expect quarterback Jayden Daniels to operate as normal, even with the Giants’ scary defensive front. The only thing one can envision is a tight game, just like the two played last season, but we have to give the edge to the home team here.

Tyler Henry: Giants 20, Commanders 17
I think the Giants’ schedule may very well prevent them from being a playoff contender this year. However, I believe they come out with a sense of urgency in Week 1 and get a win by a very slight margin. The pass rush is going to be key, rushing Jayden Daniels into some bad decisions.
Serena Burks: Commanders 24, Giants 21
This one is particularly challenging because I truly believe that the Giants are in a much better position than they have been for quite some time. The problem is they are going into Washington, they’re facing last season’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, and a team they lost to twice in 2024.

The Giants want revenge, but Jayden Daniels intends to prove he’s not going to have a sophomore slump. It’s going to be a battle between these teams on Sunday, both wanting to prove different things about themselves. Both defenses are out to prove they’ve improved, too. So, it wasn’t an easy decision, but I’m giving the nod to the Commanders.
