Heading into the first official Sunday of the 2025 NFL season, what are three things that you should know for week one? At long last, we are back!

1. Super Bowl LX will run through Buffalo or Baltimore

According to NFL experts, the Buffalo Bills are the favorite to win the Super Bowl this season, but let’s not forget that the time is drawing near for Lamar Jackson to hoist the Lombardi Trophy at season’s end. What is worrisome is that Josh Allen doesn’t necessarily have the weapons at hand to get this team a trophy. Yes, he has a solid running back in James Cook and Dalton Kincaid at tight end, but I do not think Khalil Shakir and Josh Palmer are the key to winning it all. I will say Josh Allen deserves a championship at some point, but I don’t think that it will be this season. But, the Bills’ luck will change at some point, right?

Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson has Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, Mark Andrews, and has now added DeAndre Hopkins to the mix. The Ravens defense is always stellar, and Jackson is due a title.

2. Aaron Rodgers “Revenge” Game?

Aaron Rodgers went just 6-12 in his starts with the Jets, and right from the jump, he will face them for the first game of the season as a new member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jets fans are sure to give Rodgers a warm welcome (heavy sarcasm) when he takes his first snap. Much of Rodgers’ time in New York was spent on the injured list, and Jets fans can hold a grudge! They booed Santa Claus out of the building and pelted him with snowballs for goodness’ sake!

3. Rule Changes

The NFL has changed the overtime rules for 2025. Each team will now have the opportunity to possess the ball in an overtime period regardless of the outcome of the first possession. Subject to a ten-minute overtime period in the regular season. The post-season overtime period will remain at 15 minutes.

NFL Teams voted to amend instant replay to expand its instant replay ability to advise the on-field officials on specific, objective aspects of a play and/or to address game administration issues when clear and unmistakable video evidence is present.
