Before Micah Parsons was ultimately traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers, the Indianapolis Colts were reportedly one of several teams that made a call to check in on what the price to acquire the All-Pro pass rusher would be.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Colts, along with the Panthers, Bills, and Patriots, “all made calls” to the Cowboys and were told the price to trade for Parsons was two first-round draft picks, a significant player, and a record-setting contract.

This isn’t the first high-profile pass rusher that the Colts have been connected to this offseason. Before Trey Hendrickson signed his new deal with Cincinnati, the Colts were linked to him in several reports as well.

There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to pulling off a trade of this magnitude. Not only is the team parting with two future first-round draft picks, but they also lose out on having those inexpensive rookie deals on their books for four seasons.

Jerry Jones also made it clear after the fact that the Cowboys were specifically looking for a defensive tackle as a player in return.

Then, with Parsons’ new contract that he ultimately ended up getting, the acquiring team had to have available salary cap space, both now and in the future, to make it work. In that regard, not that the Colts couldn’t have done some maneuvering, but they don’t have a ton of cap flexibility at this moment.

While the Colts made the call, how much they truly considered making a deal is unknown. Honestly, once it became known that Parsons was available, every team should have at least put in a phone call to see what the price tag was.
