The Carolina Panthers have been poached by an NFC South rival.

As announced on Saturday, the Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive lineman Sam Roberts off the Panthers’ practice squad. The fourth-year veteran is now a member of Atlanta’s active roster ahead of Sunday’s slate of Week 1 action.

Roberts, a sixth-round pick from the 2022 NFL draft, spent the first two seasons of his pro career with the New England Patriots. He appeared in 12 games for the Patriots through the 2023 campaign, amassing seven combined tackles.

After spending a chunk of the 2024 season on the Chicago Bears‘ practice squad, Roberts signed with Carolina on Nov. 18. He recorded one tackle over three games for the Panthers.

Carolina waived Roberts during the cutdown to their initial 53-man roster at the end of August, then brought him back to the practice squad shortly after.
