The San Francisco 49ers have announced the following roster moves ahead of their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks:

Promoted WR Russell Gage, Jr. from the team’s practice squad (standard elevation)
Promoted LB Curtis Robinson from the practice squad (standard elevation)

Gage is entering his eighth year in the NFL, but has only played in five of those seasons (2018-2022). In his previous stops (Tampa and Atlanta), Gage appeared in 74 games and had 244 catches for 2,491 yards and 14 touchdowns. Gage did not play during the 2023 and 2024 seasons due to a career-threatening torn patellar tendon suffered in training camp in August 2023. That injury forced Gage to miss the entire 2023 season. He failed to make a team’s roster in 2024 and was not active in any games that year. In each of his last four seasons played, Gage had at least 51 receptions. His best season came in 2020, when he had 72 catches for 786 yards and four touchdowns.

Robinson spent the last four seasons with the 49ers, playing mostly on special teams. Last September, Robinson suffered a torn ACL in practice. The injury required surgery and ended his season. But Robinson returned from the injury and will now be active for the 49ers’ season opener.

No running backs were elevated, and rookie RB Jordan James is listed as doubtful due to a broken finger that required surgery. This news is a good indication that star RB Christian McCaffrey will play on Sunday. There has been no official change to his status for the game, and there have been multiple reports saying all signs point to McCaffrey playing.

The 49ers will square off with the Seahawks on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:05 PM (PST).
