On Saturdays before Sunday games, NFL teams can elect to elevate up to two players from the practice squad to the active roster to be available for games on Sunday. The Arizona Cardinals elected not to make any roster moves ahead of their game against the New Orleans Saints.

They did not elevate anyone from the practice squad.

Because guard Will Hernandez has been ruled out of Week 1 as he finishes his recovery from a knee injury from last season, it means that undrafted rookie offensive lineman Josh Fryar will likely be active so they have three reserve linemen available as backups.

Kelvin Beachum is the backup swing tackle and Jon Gaines is the backup center, although he also can play guard. Fryar, who was a tackle at Ohio State and was seen only at tackle in the preseason and offseason, appears set to be the team’s backup guard.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon did say one reason why Fryar made the roster is because he can play all over the offensive line.

The Saints elevated tight end Jack Stoll and defensive lineman Jonah Williams. They only had two tight ends on the active roster and Chase Young has been ruled out with a calf injury.

There is the possibility that there could be a Jonah Williams vs. Jonah Williams situation, as the Cardinals’ starting right tackle is also Jonah Williams. That could be fun!
