The long NFL offseason is over and the Atlanta Falcons are finally ready to take the field for their 2025 season opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in town for an NFC South showdown to kick off Week 1. The Falcons have missed the playoffs seven years in a row but made some progress in 2024.
Aside from posting their highest win total since 2017, the Falcons swept the Buccaneers last season and flirted with the playoffs late in the year. With Michael Penix Jr. taking over at quarterback, Atlanta will attempt to finally get over hump this season.

Darnell Mooney injury status
The Falcons have listed wide receiver Darnell Mooney as questionable for Week 1. Mooney has missed most of training camp due to a shoulder injury but was a limited participant in all three days of practice. The veteran wideout said he’s a game-time call for Sunday’s opener.
