Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters after Friday night’s Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil, challenging fellow team leaders to improve for Week 2.

“It’s not going to be any easier. That’s a good football team that we’re playing against next week. I think we should have a great week of practice, come in with the right mindset. The leaders on the team need to step up,” said Mahomes, “When we step up on that football field, we’ve got to bring it, because it will take our best in order to find a way to win against that team. We’ll go back to the drawing board and be ready to go at practice, knowing that it’s going to take everything we’ve got next week.”

The Chiefs were outplayed in crucial moments late in the game and hurt by mistakes and penalties. Frustration could be seen from the players on the sidelines, as the defeat to a division opponent added to the issues lingering from Super Bowl LIX.

Mahomes finished Friday’s game, garnering 258 yards passing with a touchdown and 57 yards rushing for another touchdown, leading the team in that category.
