Award-winning musician Post Malone is a noted Cowboys superfan, but his latest repping of the team during a primetime performance had social media buzzing with the same obvious joke.
The singer/songwriter, born Austin Richard Post, has a lengthy history with the Cowboys. His father once worked as a concession manager for the club after the family moved to Grapevine when Post was a boy. He’s since appeared in numerous video projects for the team, including the 2021 schedule release when he co-starred opposite owner Jerry Jones. Post has a Cowboys-themed location of the Raising Cane’s chicken tenders chain in Dallas, and he’s performed all over the world wearing the jerseys of several Cowboys players.
On Sunday, he did it again, though his attempt at showcasing his fandom was watched by many with a serious case of side-eye.
During the MTV Video Music Awards, Post performed via satellite from a concert venue in Germany alongside Jelly Roll. His wardrobe for the evening featured the No. 1 jersey of Jalen Tolbert. All fine…
But the song they sang? “Losers,” off Post’s 2024 studio album F-1 Trillion. And as the duo hit the chorus, with the lyrics, “Let’s hear it for the losers,” Post could be seen motioning to his jersey with a self-deprecating smile.
And X users picked up on it.
The Cowboys, of course, lost their season opener just three nights prior, coming up short in a 24-20 loss to the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Tolbert, incidentally, logged one reception for zero yards.
Makes you wonder what song Post might have chosen had the Cowboys won. Or if he might have donned a Jalen Hurts jersey for the occasion, just to rub in the “Losers” bit.
