On the final day of the draft, the team added three new faces who will try on the red and gold for size. In the fourth round, with the 133rd pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chiefs selected the aptly-named WR Jalen Royals out of Utah State. Royals, you say? He’ll fit in great in Kansas City. After the selection, Royals told reporters, “I’m super excited. shown that they can be the best offense in the league year in and year out. I’m extremely excited.”Officials with the Chiefs said they zeroed in on Royals because of how coachable he’s proven to be.The team then started making moves. The Chiefs sent their original fifth-round pick (164th overall) and seventh-round pick (226thoverall) to the Pittsburgh Steelers for their fifth-round pick (156th overall).With that pick, the Chiefs selected LB Jeffrey Bassa out of Oregon. Officials with the team said they were surprised Bassa was still in the field for the fifth round, noting he was consistent and dependable during his time at Oregon. Bassa said he’s ready to come in with a goal for growth, adding, “Really, my main mindset heading into this first year is going to be to learn from guys like Drue (Tranquill) and guys like Nick (Bolton).”The Chiefs then sent their original seventh-round picks (251st and 257th overall) to the New England Patriots for their 228th slot, selecting RB Brashard Smith out of SMU.SMU Head Coach Rhett Lashlee compared Smith to a familiar name around KC — Isiah Pacheco. Smith said he’s “juiced up” and ready to work hard in the running back room.
