As Indianapolis Colts coach Shane Steichen said in the postgame locker room Sunday: “This one’s a little more special.”
After congratulating his team for its 33-8 NFL Week 1 win over the Miami Dolphins — highlighting the defense creating three turnovers and the offense scoring on every possession — Steichen reminded them of late team owner Jim Irsay, who was placed in the team’s Ring of Honor at halftime.
“He raised three daughters to run our football team. And we can’t be more thankful for you girls,” Steichen said.
He presented team owners Kalen Jackson, Carlie Irsay-Gordon and Casey Foyt with game balls.
This means so much,” Kalen Jackson said. “Someone said the roof was open so he could watch us and he was with every single one of you. Thank you for doing this for us.”
They closed by chanting, “Win for Jim.”
