One of the themes leading up to the 2025 NFL draft was the fact that no team had done more work on quarterback Sheduer Sanders than the New York Giants.
As it turned out, the Giants passed on Sanders in favor of Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who the team traded up to select at the 25th overall pick.

Sanders ended up sliding much further than anyone expected and not getting picked until No. 144 overall when the Cleveland Browns took him after previously selecting quarterback Dillon Gabriel 50 picks earlier.
Sanders’ slide took so many by surprise, including Minnesota Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson. He recently offered his two cents on the situation and took a potshot at the Giants and quarterback Russell Wilson in the process.
“I think it’s crazy that he … dropped in the draft. I definitely don’t think he should have dropped that far,” Jefferson said. “Just watching him the previous seasons and seeing the different things he did at, you know, Colorado, I definitely thought he should have been drafted in that first, second round. I guess it’s just more fire for him and more chip on his shoulder that he can use going into the league.”

“I mean New York doesn’t really have a quarterback. Steelers. Cleveland definitely does need a quarterback also.”
Even Giants’ star receiver Malik Nabers was surprised by Sanders’ historic slide.
Entering the offseason, Giants co-owner John Mara made it clear that the team’s No. 1 priority was to address the quarterback position. Shortly after signing Jameis Winston, the Giants also signed 10-time Pro Bowler and former Super Bowl Champion Russell Wilson.
While Jefferson took a subtle shot at Wilson and the Giants quarterback room, it should be noted that the Giants defeated Jefferson’s Vikings a few short years ago.

Of course, we later found out that Sanders was not the Giants’ guy after having a poor interview with head coach Brian Daboll. Jefferson clearly thinks the Giants should have taken a shot on Sanders.
It will be interesting to see if and when Sanders will get to take the field.
