INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Daniel Jones was impressive in his Colts debut on Sunday, leading the team to a dominant win over the Miami Dolphins.

He commanded the offense, completing 22 of his 29 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown. He also added on 26 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

Former Colts head coach Tony Dungy was optimistic about Jones heading into the game, talking about the new Colts quarterback on WISH-TV’s Countdown to Kickoff.

“I’m really excited,” Dungy said. “I think he’s going to bring some things to the table that Colts fans are going to be surprised.”

Dungy has a special connection with Jones too, building the relationship with him last season.

“I actually met him last year,” Dungy said. “We were doing the Cincinnati (Bengals)-(New York) Giants game. He was getting a lot of heat from the New York media, and we talked during the pregame warmup. And then he ended up in Minnesota. Of course, with my background with the Vikings, I ended up connecting with him and we’ve been in touch with each other throughout the last season and this offseason.”

Dungy was the Vikings defensive coordinator from 1992-1995.

Jones did something that Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck had never done as Colts quarterbacks on Sunday. The Colts became the first NFL team since at least 1978 to score on every offensive possession of the game.

Jones led the Colts on touchdown drives in two of the first three drives of the game. The Colts had seven total drives, with three touchdowns and four field goals.

Dungy was the Colts head coach for seven seasons (2002-2008). He helped lead the Colts to their Super Bowl XLI victory and had a record of 85-27 in Indianapolis.

The Colts will try to continue their momentum from the dominant Week 1 victory when they take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium.
