GREEN BAY — The short turnaround heading into Thursday night’s matchup with the Washington Commanders isn’t doing the Green Bay Packers’ offensive line any favors.

After losing right tackle Zach Tom to what is now being described as an oblique injury and left guard Aaron Banks to ankle and groin injuries, the Packers could have to face the Washington Commanders without either one of them on Thursday night at Lambeau Field.

Neither Tom nor Banks would have been able to participate had the team practiced on Monday, according to estimations on the team’s injury report. Both linemen were injured during the second half of the Packers’ 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Tom was injured on quarterback Jordan Love’s third-quarter interception, which Brian Branch returned for a touchdown only to have it wiped out by a Lions holding penalty. During Branch’s return, Lions defensive end Aiden Hutchinson committed an unnecessary roughness penalty for his hit on Love, and Tom was injured when he dove over his quarterback and landed awkwardly on his hip.

“Obviously I was getting smacked, so I don’t even know what happened,” Love said. “Zach, I think he said he tried jumping over me and avoiding me or something like that but I didn’t get to see what happened. I just got up and saw him down.”

Before their injuries, Love had ample time in the pocket (zero sacks) and didn’t put his surgically-repaired left thumb in any danger.

“Man, they were just dominant up front. They did a great job,” Love said after the game. “I don’t think there were too many pressures early on, and they just did a great job of stopping their D-line.”

Darian Kinnard initially took over for Tom, but later, rookie second-round pick Anthony Belton was at right tackle.

Kinnard, whom the Packers acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles just before final cuts at the end of training camp, was not among the players listed on the injury report Monday, and he seemed to do a solid job in Tom’s place, so perhaps the Packers pulled him because the outcome was decided.

If Tom can’t go and Kinnard gets the starting nod, it’ll mark just his second career NFL start.

Banks went out during the fourth quarter and was replaced by Jordan Morgan, who’d been sharing time with Sean Rhyan at right guard earlier in the game.

Asked if he was concerned about getting Tom or Banks back with limited recovery time before facing the Commanders, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur replied, “A short week is always tough. They’re in there getting treatment right now. Everybody’s in there doing some sort of recovery.”

Reed ‘hurting’ after win | Wide receiver Jayden Reed, who is playing through a Jones fracture in his left foot suffered in training camp, said after the game he was “definitely hurting a little bit” after catching a team-leading three passes for 45 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown.

Reed was listed in the did-not-participate category on Monday’s injury report, but that would be consistent with the approach the Packers took with him last week to get him ready to play the Lions. Reed did not practice on Wednesday but was limited on Thursday and Friday before playing in the game.

“I’m about to go home, put my foot in some ice and I’ll feel better,” Reed said after the game. “[You] just have to get your treatment, man. Whatever you need to do. Everybody’s body is different and everybody is dealing with something different. You just have to do what you need to do most, take care of that on your own.”

Cornerback Bo Melton, who sustained a shoulder injury against the Lions, and defensive end Brenton Cox, who suffered a groin injury, also would not have practiced Monday. Linebacker Quay Walker was added to the injury report later Monday as a non-participant because of a quadriceps injury he sustained against the Lions.

The Packers’ lone practice of the week is set for Tuesday afternoon.

Cornerback Nate Hobbs, who was inactive against the Lions despite practicing on a limited basis on Thursday and Friday, was estimated as a limited participant on Monday, too.

Hobbs underwent surgery Aug. 2 after suffering a torn meniscus during a training-camp practice two days earlier.

Wide receiver Matthew Golden, who sustained an ankle injury against the Lions, was listed as limited, as were safety Zayne Anderson (knee), defensive end Micah Parsons (back), defensive end Barryn Sorrell (knee) and wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (calf).

Punter Daniel Whelan was also included on the injury report with a right knee injury, although he was projected as a full participant in practice.

Extra points | The Packers swapped out practice-squad running backs, adding Pierre Strong Jr. and releasing Israel Abanikanda. The 5-foot-11, 207-pound Strong, a fourth-year player out of South Dakota State, entered the league in 2022 as a fourth-round pick by the New England Patriots. He has 99 carries for 499 yards (5.0 avg.) and two touchdowns in three NFL seasons with the Patriots and the Cleveland Browns. … The Packers will present newly minted Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Sterling Sharpe with his Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence at halftime against the Commanders, the Hall announced.
