Damarri Mathis’ season has ended before it started.

After being cut by the Denver Broncos in August, Mathis was quickly claimed off waivers by the Carolina Panthers. He was set to get an opportunity to stabilize his career under defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, but Mathis tore his ACL in his first practice with the club last week. It’s a heartbreaking development for Mathis, who needs season-ending surgery. The former fourth-round draft pick will now hope to bounce back in 2026.

Another former Bronco, backup quarterback Jeff Driskel, landed on the practice squad of the Las Vegas Raiders. Driskel spent the 2020 season in Denver, going 0-1 as a fill-in starter.

Elsewhere on the ex-Bronco front, pass rusher Ronnie Perkins joined the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad, edge defender Garrett Nelson joined the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad, wide receiver Jerjuan Newton worked out for the Detroit Lions, running back Chase Edmonds worked out for the Indianapolis Colts and receiver Juwann Winfree was removed from the Houston Texans‘ injured reserve list with a settlement.
