Giants’ keys to victory vs Cowboys

Well, for one, it’d be nice if the offense looked a little bit like a professional unit that could function outside of Russell Wilson throwing up jump-ball prayers to Malik Nabers. The interior offensive line was pushed all over the field as Washington dominated in Week 1, and the overall performance led to no touchdowns for the Giants in three straight season openers.

Can the Giants get more than 30 yards on 15 carries from their running back trio of Tyrone Tracy, Cam Skattebo and Devin Singletary? There will be a lot of talk about getting Andrew Thomas back at left tackle, but even if that happens, he’s not bringing a magic wand into the huddle.

Cowboys’ keys to victory vs Giants

QB Dak Prescott has won 13 consecutive starts against the Giants, going back to a pair of losses in the 2016 season, his rookie year. He’s the constant and will challenge the Big Blue defense.

The overall surprise for Dallas in Week 1 has to be the play of the offensive line and the running game led by RB Javonte Williams, who ran for two touchdowns and gave flashbacks to the game-breaker he was in Denver prior to a knee injury.

The Cowboys have to prove they can dominate defensively without Micah Parsons. Is there any player that strikes fear into the opponent? Trevon Diggs can be that. Is newcomer Za’Darius Smith ready after signing just last week?

Giants vs Cowboys matchup to watch

Cowboys WR Cee Dee Lamb vs. Giants CBs Paulson Adebo, Cor’Dale Flott and Dru Phillips: Lamb’s stat line in the Week 1 box score was great: seven catches for 110 yards. But go beyond the numbers and there was one reality that deserves the most attention – Lamb dropped four passes, two of them on the Cowboys’ final possession, including a potential touchdown.

Lamb has burned the Giants in the past working out of the slot, so Phillips’ presence inside is also part of this coverage against one of the league’s best playmakers. Will Adebo travel? I’d say no, since Flott was one of the few bright spots Sunday.

Giants vs Cowboys prediction

It’s hard to see the Giants completely turning things around in one week, especially given their history against Prescott and the Cowboys. The last Giants coach to beat that combination was Ben McAdoo. Just staggering. Team brass would have loved to hold off on making Jaxson Dart the starter, but the whispers are getting louder. Soon, they’ll be unavoidable. Might not solve the greater issues here, but Dart represents hope for the future.
