PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — With safety DeShon Elliott expected to be sidelined for several weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers are adding reinforcements to its secondary.

NFL sources report that Elliott is likely to miss a couple of weeks with an MCL sprain suffered during Sunday’s victory over the Jets.

In his absence, Pittsburgh is signing veteran safety Jabrill Peppers to the team’s active roster, according to league insider Ian Rapoport.

Peppers, who was a first-round pick in 2017, was surprisingly cut by the New England Patriots during this year’s preseason.

The nine-year NFL veteran spent the past three seasons in Foxborough, where he started 26 games for the Patriots.

Peppers previously spent two seasons in Cleveland and three years with the Giants following a stout collegiate career at the University of Michigan.
