The Carolina Panthers‘ place kicker of the previous three seasons has finally found himself another home.

According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers are signing kicker Eddy PiƱeiro to their active roster. The soon-to-be 30-year-old veteran manned the position for the Panthers from 2022 to 2024.

PiƱeiro, who spent his first two pro campaigns with the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, joined Carolina on the endorsement of then-Panthers special teams coordinator Chris Tabor. The two had crossed paths during PiƱeiro’s rookie season with the Bears in 2019.

In 49 games for the Panthers, he converted on 80 of his 90 field goal attempts (88.9 percent) and 80 of his 87 extra point tries (92 percent).

Carolina moved on at the spot this offseason, allowing PiƱeiro to hit free agency. The Panthers have gone into the 2025 campaign with undrafted rookie Ryan Fitzgerald, who hit on his lone field goal attempt of 48 yards in Sunday’s opener, as their kicker.

PiƱeiro will take over San Francisco’s kicking duties, which were left vacant by the release of former third-round pick Jake Moody.
