NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – This weekend is one of the last Titans home openers in the current Nissan Stadium. The new one is about halfway done being built.
More than a thousand people are at the construction site of the new Nissan Stadium every day, inching it closer to its February 2027 completion date. The next milestone will be this November when they start building the roof on the enclosed stadium.
“This building is going to be one of the special places in the world, I believe,” Titans President and CEO Burke Nihill said.
Nihill said it is going to be all about the teams and the fans. The seats will be an average of 38% closer to the action. Lines and wait times will be significantly reduced.
“Our current building has four escalators,” Nihill said. “This building has 44 escalators. We really invested in the sorts of things are going to make a difference from a fan experience. This building has twice the number of bathrooms [that the current building does.]”

Nihill said they studied venues across the country, including Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and even Augusta National Golf Course.
“We took inspiration from all of those places, but at the end of the day, what we wanted to build was authentically Nashville,” Nihill said. “Something that reflected the character, the soul and even the audacity of this city.”
A source of local inspiration was Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville. It was built more than 100 years ago, but it remains an iconic fixture that represents the city.
“50 years from now, how could people be saying the same thing about this venue?” Nihill asked.
In the more immediate future, the Titans are confident the new stadium will further solidify Nashville as a destination city, drawing in the biggest events in sports and entertainment like National Championships.
“I think it will just be a matter of landing the planes on the runway in terms of landing those events,” Nihill said. “When they come to town, the Super Bowl, Final Four, Wrestlemania… All of them, I think, are going to be here in time.”
