It was impossible not to be excited for Micah Parsons’ first game for the Green Bay Packers. Parsons himself and the game certainly did not disappoint. The new Packers edge defender had a sack and three pressures, via ESPN, and Green Bay beat the Detroit Lions 27-13.
It was beautiful and it was fun for the Packers. But it has to continue moving forward. Ahead of a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Washington Commanders at Lambeau Field, Parsons talked about how special that first game was, and how fans have to help to keep the momentum.
“It’s crazy momentum for us. The crowd has to understand, you started something, it’s something you have to finish,” Parsons said. “We’re playing for that now. So, Pack, we need you. We need that energy this Thursday and the rest of the year because it’s contagious. It’s contagious. We feel it.”
Thursday’s game is a big challenge for the defense against a mobile quarterback in Jayden Daniels. Last year, Green Bay had trouble setting the edge and generating pressure at the same time against athletic passers. Parsons wants to change that.
“We’ve got horse engines now,” Parsons pointed out. “I don’t see anybody outrunning me from the edge.”

Micah Parsons knows his role
The Packers made a huge investment to acquire Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys. General manager Brian Gutekunst gave up two first-round picks, defensive tackle Kenny Clark, and agreed to a monster four-year, $186 million extension.
While Parsons wants the fans to help the team, the star player knows it’s his responsibility to make the entire defense more powerful and explosive.
“A guy who is now the highest-paid player, you’ve got to win the room,” he said. “You’ve got to earn guys’ respect not because of your pockets, but because of what you acquire on the field.”
Based on the first game, Micah Parsons will achieve that soon. And Thursday against his former NFC East rival is the next opportunity to do so.
