Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn knows Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur well. When Quinn received his first head coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons in 2015, he hired LaFleur as his quarterbacks coach. He hired LaFleur at a time when LaFleur was on the radar of very few.

LaFleur was a part of Mike Shanahan’s historic staff with Washington from 2010-13. He was one of the coaches fired at the conclusion of the 2013 season by former owner Dan Snyder, along with Mike and Kyle Shanahan. To remain in coaching, LaFleur stepped back down to the college level, coaching quarterbacks at Notre Dame in 2014 before Quinn hired him in 2015.

After two years with the Falcons, LaFleur had a stint as offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams (2017) and Tennessee Titans (2018) before the Packers hired him as head coach in 2019.

Washington and Green Bay meet in this week’s edition of Thursday Night Football.

Looking back, LaFleur believes he wouldn’t be in the position he’s currently in if not for Quinn.

There’s clearly a lot of respect between Quinn and LaFleur.

Quinn also met with the media on Tuesday and was asked a question about how difficult it is to prepare for a player like Micah Parsons. Quinn offered LaFleur some advice.

“Are you asking what would I do if I was coaching him? I’d sit him this week [laugh]. Yeah, short week.”

Quinn knows Parsons well, too, having coached him for three years in Dallas.

While LaFleur has immense respect for Quinn, we doubt he’ll be taking his advice on Thursday night.
